Check out our list of must-visit stationery and office supplies markets in Shanghai.

1. Fuzhou Road Cultural Street  福州路文化街

Shanghai Fuzhou Road

Fuzhou Road is renowned in Shanghai as the “Cultural Street.” Unlike the vibrant and bustling areas, it offers a quieter ambiance, focusing on books and culture. Along this street, you’ll discover prominent bookstores, traditional stationery outlets, and publishing houses specializing in writing tools such as brushes, ink stones, and ink sticks.

There’s also the Foreign Languages Bookstore and Shanghai Book City, where you can find stuff for both Western and Chinese arts and crafts. Shanghai Book City, located at No. 465, is the biggest bookstore in the city. A bit further from People’s Square, you’ll find the largest official Foreign Language Bookstore in Shanghai. It has three floors full of books in foreign languages, mostly in English. On the first floor, you’ll find books about Chinese history and classic English stories. Nearby, other stores sell cute greeting cards, silk paper, special writing brushes, and more for art and crafts.

Fuzhou Road is also called the ‘Stationery Street,’ a must-visit for stationery enthusiasts. From stationery essentials to postcards, markers, bookmarks, stickers, and even toys, you can find everything you need here!

While walking along Fuzhou Road, I stumbled upon a unique stationery store that sold items by weight… The storefront boasted bright red lettering against a bold yellow backdrop, and signs inside proclaimed, “Running a physical store is challenging. Stationery priced at 7.8 yuan per 0.5 kilograms, clearance sale.” Stepping inside, I was greeted by a mesmerizing array of notebooks. From soft covers to hard covers, individual units to bundled packs, plain to intricately designed, small to large, new to old—every type was proudly displayed before me.
