Xi Urges Overseas-Educated Talents to Contribute to Chinese Dream

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday called on overseas-educated talents to contribute to realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, whether they are at home or abroad.

Xi made the remarks at the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Western Returned Scholars Association.

The government supports students and scholars studying abroad, encourages them to return to China, guarantees them the freedom of coming and going, and supports them in using their talents, Xi said while addressing the ceremony attended by about 3,000 people.

The Communist Party of China and the government respect the choices of the students, Xi said. “You are warmly welcome if you return to China. If you stay abroad, we support you in serving the country in various ways.”

Xi said he hoped the students would remain patriotic, integrating their own achievement with national development.

Chien-sheng Tsai: It is a good move, but question is implementation. This is also the focus of my group, Global Chinese MBAs Network.

Peter Fennell: “President Xi Jinping on Monday called on overseas-educated talents to contribute to realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, whether they are at home or abroad.”

This is a stroke of genius as most countries should do this but do not bother to do it at this level of approval.
It is mostly done via families who expand overseas and prosper because they work together globally for success. In the past Italians, Greeks, Lebanese and Chinese families have explored the prosperous nations of the world, worked hard and shared their wealth so everyone wins.
Managed correctly, China has a chance for significant wins for the nation and the companies who help China build what it needs for a better future.

C K, President Xi Jinping has come up with a very cleaver strategy here as there are highly educated Chinese in every country on the planet. Their cultural heritage maybe a mix if there are born and bred in another country like ABC. (American Born Chinese) but there is still a link and it can be used to an advantage if the people explore opportunities as a united force using the ethic similarity.

Chien-Sheng, I have found that putting like minded people in the same room and letting them network is a great start. This can be formal or informal but as long as the people present realise they have been brought together for the purpose of helping each other grow and prosper, good things will come from it.
As soon as Governments get in the middle of this, it will often go off the rails. Chinese however do use delegations effectively overseas especially now you have some much real dollars to spend. Including some trusted westerners in the mix will also bring a host of new ideas and develop opportunities
Exciting really…….

Odia Okobiemen: Strategic imperative as the age of the super power requires that the Chinese nation learns more and imbibes the very best of other cultures. The mistake of the Emperors to shut their country from outside influence was the beginning of the end of their dominance. Reversing the trend is the aim of this policy. Good show!

Damon Mackey, MBA (LiON): This is something that we strongly support and costantly strive to play a role in at catalyst4mbas.com. I think that one of the best things that can be done to support this is to give students an automatic visa to travel in and out of the country during education and two years afterwards. Making this easy to obtain is important and then the government playing a role in introducing students to jobs in China or in Chinese companies abroad.

We holding the MBA Global Conference in Shanghai and currently pushing to use a virtual or cloud conference so that MBAs and Masters can attend live and can attend from overseas. The idea for this is to make it easy to access the organizations that are looking for experienced and driven people.

Its really important the progress that China has made in having people go overseas for education and bring the knowledge back with them. All of our cultures have strong points and weak points. To be able to harness those strong points of multiple countries and pull them together is a key ingredient in being a global leader.
