Chinese? Female? Over 27? Unmarried? Then congrats. You belong to the group labeled as “sheng nv(剩女)”, also known as leftover women. It’s so different from the west.
There are different grades of leftover women in China according to age.
* Aged from 25-27, also known as sheng dou shi(剩斗士), a harmonic name with Saint圣斗士 in Chinese.
* Aged from 28-30, also known as bi sheng ke(必剩客), a harmonic name with Pizza-hut 必胜客 in Chinese.
* Aged from 31-35, with the honorific title as dou zhan sheng fo(斗战胜佛), the Monkey King, a household character famous for his magic golden cudgel and tremendously supernatural power.
*Over 35, 齐天大圣, another senior nickname of the Monkey King.
*Over 45, 剩者为王, he who laughs last laughs best.
As a member of Pizza-hut, I went to a blind date last week arranged by a warm-hearted auntie. It was the second blind date I’ve been to so far. Nothing too special about “disasters” or “terrible”, which people frequently relate to when speaking of blind dates. He’s just normal people like me, so we are just like friend-gathering over an afternoon tea… He couldn’t understand people like me was leftover in a land with male dominated imbalance, so the blind date over the afternoon tea has become a discussion on shengnv(胜女). The challenges of international marriage.
*Some Chinese women might love money and green card more than the men.
*Some Chinese parents might expect their offspring to support them, might be buy a house or support them when they are old. If you don’t want to waste money in exorbitantly expensive apartment with only 70-year ownership in China, then better state it clearly.
*Make sure you are marrying someone not her family. Many of the people who were born in the 80’s are the only-child, and their parents might want to live with them even after marriage. Some Chinese parents can be really very backwards.
*Education of kids. If you don’t want your kids to be educated in mainland China, better state it beforehand.
*Pollution. Some Chinese cities especially Beijing is notorious for pollution.
*Food safety. We seldom have confidence on the food here.
*About AA. There is a popular joke here, “Your money is my money. My money is money.” 🙂
